Previously a neonatal intensive care unit and gynecology-oncology nurse, Jill Wilkens M.D. is a board-certified diagnostic radiologist with specialty fellowship training in pediatric radiology. She has published and lectured widely since her training and is highly respected in her field.

Though skilled in all aspects of radiology, her specialty areas include women’s imaging, specifically breast health, and pediatric care. She performs specialized pediatric diagnostic procedures such as scoliosis exams, infant hip, spine, and brain ultrasound, and gastrointestinal and genitourinary procedures, including voiding cystourethrograms (VCUG). Her advanced expertise and nurturing manner allow her to perform these diagnostic procedures with ease and typically without sedation, leaving patients and their families feeling comforted that they made the right choice. As one of the few pediatric radiologists in private practice, she gives families a viable alternative to the hospital setting for their children.

Equally experienced in women’s imaging, Dr. Wilkens is a respected leader in the field of diagnostic breast imaging. She utilizes the most sophisticated technologies such as 3D tomosynthesis mammography, 3T MRI and breast US to find breast cancers in the earliest stages, when a cure is possible.

She believes that it is important for women to choose their “women’s center” wisely, and to be well informed regarding the quality of technology and level of expertise of the interpreting physician at the center they choose for their care.

Her focus on patient safety and comfort are at the forefront of her practice. Her years of experience as a breast imager, diagnostic acumen, and dedication to maintaining the highest quality of service are at the core of her practice. She understands that there is a certain level of anxiety that comes with women’s imaging and therefore she designed her center with a spa-like concept and results are delivered immediately to all diagnostic patients and their physicians.

Dr. Wilkens has maintained a balance between private practice and academic medicine. She continues to write academic articles and she served as an assistant professor of radiology at The University of Maryland School of Medicine for fourteen years, retiring from that position only recently.

In her leisure time, Dr. Wilkens enjoys world travel, mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, and scuba diving. She lives in Harford County with her husband and twin son and daughter. She serves on the Board of Trustees of their school and is very active in her community.
